5 Ways For Moms To Stay Sane During The Holidays

The holiday season is always my favorite season but I enjoy it more now especially as a mom.
I love watching my kids’ reactions about meeting Santa, seeing fake snow, watching Christmas movies, decorating cookies, passing out baked goods, surprising their friends with treats, and opening their gifts.
As it gets closer to Christmas, the reality sets in. My family’s schedule gets busier. There are more things to get done in time for Christmas. Parties and events to attend. Gifts to buy. Sweets to make. Since the holiday season can be hectic, I often look for ways to maintain my sanity during the holidays.
Here are 5 ways for moms to stay sane during the holidays so you could enjoy spending time with the people who matter most.
Shop for gifts online ahead of time.
Avoid going to stores if possible, navigating through the crowds and standing in long lines especially with the kids. I despise waiting in a long line while handling my cranky kids. It is even worse when you try to do Christmas shopping at the last minute. So. Many. People everywhere. No, thank you!
So, I do most of my shopping ahead of time behind a laptop with my cup of hot coffee, my favorite snack lately, Jif® Power Ups ™ Apple Cinnamon Creamy Clusters, and a Christmas movie playing in the background for the kids!
Let go of the expectations.
You may dream of making tons of beautifully decorated cookies, do a pile of holiday crafts, be the house with the best Christmas lights, and host a fun party that people will never stop talking about. You can’t do everything and/or have it be perfect. Let the kids decorate the cookies and make a mess! It is ok if the crafts you make aren’t pin-worthy. Don’t worry if anything doesn’t go your way. Be reasonable with your goals. Try not to stress or feel guilty over what you can’t get done.
Set a budget.
It is so easy to spend, spend, and spend a lot of money during the holidays. Not just for loved ones’ Christmas gifts, but there are plenty of entertainment and parties going on. Have a budget in place for the gifts, entertainment, and parties. This is another reason why I love to shop online because I can just focus on what I am looking for and avoid being tempted by other things.

Do what you know you can manage and not get burned out. The holidays are meant to be enjoyed.
Take a break to do some self-care.
Self-care is imperative all year long but it is especially important during the holidays with all those added stress. What do I do to treat myself?
