DIY Hack: IKEA Latt Table

Here is my DIY Hack for the IKEA Latt Table!
I am hacking the Latt table to make it easier to clean, to add additional storage, and to match our interior decor style.
Once I’ve started taking the parts apart and stain most of the wood parts with Minwax Wood Stain in Special Walnut
(One of my favorite wood stain colors! I have a lot of wood items in the house such as this wood ceiling in the bathroom with this wood stain color.) in the garage, I realized that it wasn’t going to be done in a day.

The stain odor was really strong, so I took them outside. I decided to paint some parts light blue… The top part of the chairs and the bottom back side of the chairs also just to give them a pop of color.
*Make sure you wear gloves and clothes you don’t mind ruining! If you are going to be kneeling to stain, cover your legs. I still have the wood stain on my legs and it has been a few days now.*
It was really cool to see the wood grains come out after staining. Staining the table and chairs gave them character.
Once they’re completely dry, I sealed them with Minwax Satin Polycrylic Finish in a thin coat using a clean paintbrush just once. I have thought about sanding and doing a second coat, but just one coat is definitely better than what it used to be.
I added an IKEA spice rack (painted light blue and sealed) to one side of the table for storing crafts when we do activities. It is mind-boggling how many hacks there are for IKEA spice racks on Pinterest! I used the IKEA spice rack as a bookshelf for when Coral was an infant. It didn’t work out as she would use the bookshelf to pull herself up and the bookshelf fell off.
Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of the process because I decided to do this at the last minute.
In this picture, you can see some dents that are more noticeable after staining, but I love it! It adds more character. If you don’t like this, you can use the wood putty to smooth the dents.
Coral and her bed hair!
The spice rack is a great use for additional storage such as storing empty playdoh canisters during the playtime. I plan to buy skinny jars to store crayons, paintbrushes, toddler scissors, etc. So, we can use the spice rack to store items while we do activities.
I love how the light blue adds a pop of color to the table and the chairs.
Coral is in a phase of being obsessed with wearing costumes. Here, she is wearing her Halloween costume, Tinkerbell from last year.

The entire project took me maybe two and half days to complete, since leaving the parts out to dry took a long time. However, it is worth it! 😉
Now, I want to buy a lot of IKEA spice racks and put them everywhere for the small items! Would you feel the urge to run out of the house if you walk in a house with spice racks all over the walls?
Now, onto to the next project!

Looks great! I love DIY projects!
I do, too! Thank you.
This is amazing!! I love Ikea hacks, and this is a great one. I love how clever you were to put the spice rack on the side for extra storage – genius!
Obsessed with Ikea hacks! Thank you!
This looks fantastic!! I love the addition of the spice rack to take the table to the next level!
It was the best decision! Thank you!
This is such a great idea and like you I have a playdoh loving little lady at home. She would be stoked to have a table for all her “treasures”. I think I found my daughter’s twin…bedhead hair and all 🙂
All of her playdoh dried out. I resorted back to making my own play dough and added some drops of essential oils. The house smells good when she plays with the play dough! Coral would get mad at me if I try to comb her bedhead.
Such a great idea! I want to buy IKEA spice racks and hang them all over too now! Your little Tinker Bell is adorable!
Haha! Thank you! I think she is adorable, too. 😉
This is so smart! I love the addition of the spice rack, how functional! We have one of these tables too and you’re right, it gets grungy so easily and is hard to get really clean! I might have to makeover someday. 🙂

The addition of the spice rack was the best decision! My daughter likes to use it to hold her iPad, heh. Now, it is much easier to clean so you should do a makeover on yours!
This turned out so cute! Perfect for the kiddos!
Yes, thank you!

Oh, I am obsessed with looking for IKEA hacks on Pinterest. I want to do more and more. I would have loved a table like this when I was younger, too! Thanks!
Love the color of the chairs! We did a ton of DIY projects when we bought our house and they are so fun but can be frustrating if they don’t turn out how you had envisioned!
I agree it can be frustrating! Sometimes I throw out my DIY fail items because they couldn’t be saved. 🙁
